Cavitation Thresholds in Biological Tissues

The problem of cavitation and its thresholds in biological tissues is one of the main problems in investigating the mechanism of biological action of ultrasound. In the megacycle range of ultrasound frequencies cavitation in viscous — from 0.25 to 1.0 P — biological media was for a long time supposed to arise only at sufficiently high intensities of ultrasound(1), (of the order of 10–100 W/cm−2).
