Abstract
A model is presented to explain why fogs can be maintained for extended periods of time. The model considers the fog as a dynamical system whereby droplets depletion through fall is balanced by a continuous process of evaporation and condensation. The controlling parameters of the process are indicated. Possible means of fog dispersal by the velocity field induced by trailing vortices are suggested.
