Abstract

Positron emission tomography (PET) is a sensitive measure of brain function. It detects not only the effects of structured stimuli, but also the effects of adventitious endogenous and exogenous events on regional blood flow and metabolism. As a result, the “normal” PET study, both at rest and in response to activation procedures, may be more difficult to characterize than the abnormal study (1).
