The Orienting Reflex and Functional Stability of the Nervous System

Abstract

The primary thesis of this presentation is that V.D. Nebylitsyn’s concept of functional stability of the central nervous system (CNS) (Nebylitsyn, 1964) may provide a potential neurobiological basis for the intellectual dimension of human behavior. Evidence is presented in support of the proposition that individuals whose CNS is more functionally stable have higher measured IQs, while those whose CNS is less functionally stable have lower IQs.
