Abstract

The formation of peroxide-type compounds with an ionic bond between the element atoms and the molecular oxygen ions, O 2 2− , O 2 , O 3 , is typical for that small number of elements in the periodic table which have distinctly pronounced basic properties. Elements with distinctly pronounced acid-forming properties produce other types of peroxide compounds, mainly complex.
