Summary

The aim of this last chapter is to discuss recent developments in ship types and then to indulge in some ‘crystal gazing’, to visualize changing patterns of trade in dry cargo and the consequent impact on cargo access equipment. Prediction of future trends can be readily upset by international developments in the world movement of commodities, but foresight brings its own rewards. While it is stimulating to consider the distant future, it is foolhardy to be unaware of more immediate potential developments.
