The measurement of local tissue Po2 provides a unique possibility of directly analysing the actual Po2 supply to the terminal vascular bed. In recent studies, much data on the tissue Po2 of rats has been collected. The failure of an in vivo model which allows the parallel measurement of macrocirculatory parameters and of tissue oxygenation made the interpretation of this data more difficult.
