LN-10, a Brain Derived CDNA Clone: Studies Related to CNS Development
The development and maturation of the nervous system are the results of highly specific interactions among developing neurons with their cellular and substrate environment. These interactions regulate cell proliferation and differentiation, neuroblast migration, axonal growth and guidance, target recognition and synapse formation. The development, over the past decade, of the methods of molecular biology, gives the opportunity for the study of these interactions in the molecular level. This kind of studies will give insight not only in the regulatory mechanisms of the establishment of form and pattern within the central nervous system (CNS) but also in very important properties of it, as it is plasticity and regeneration. Within this frame of studies it has been recently reported the isolation of cDNA clones from a λgt11 cDNA expression library made from NGF-treated PC12 celisi. The screening of the library was done with polyclonal rabbit and guinea pig anti-NILE (NGF Inducible Large External-Glycoprotein) antibodies the characteristics of which are previously described2,3. Two of these clones are modestly but reproducibly up-regulated by NGF in PC12 cells.
