Threshold Distributions of Phrenic Nerve Motor Fibers: A Factor in Smooth Electrophrenic Respiration

Abstract

The inability of electrophrenic stimulators to reproduce the smooth diaphragmatic contraction sequence which occurs spontaneously has limited the utlity of such devices. To provide data fundamental to design of an acceptable device, threshold response of the phrenicdiaphragmatic complex to electrical stimuli was studied in seven dogs.
