Abstract

It’s an honour to speak to this distinguished, international audience. I do so with some diffidence because, to me, a large ion is 238U. On the other hand, high resolution is 1 part in 100,000, as Peter Williams used to demonstrate when we had the good fortune to have him with us. I am also reassured by the presence of Ken Standing, whom I taught in Third Year, and who has demonstrated how students can surpass their teachers.
