A New Measurement of the Rydberg

The Rydberg constant which determines the wavelengths of spectral lines of one-electron atoms may be expressed in terms of the fundamental physical constants as
$$ {R_\infty } = \frac{{{m_e}{e^4}}}{{4\pi {\hbar ^3}c}} \cdot {\left( {\frac{{{\mu _o}{c^2}}}{{4\pi }}} \right)^2} $$
and because it can be measured with relatively high accuracy it plays a key role in assessing the most probable measured values of these constants. The presently accepted value of R. has a quoted error of 1 in 107 and the ever increasing accuracy of other measurements in such an assessment now means that this error is now only just sufficiently small, whereas previously an accuracy of 1 in 106 would have been sufficient.
