Superfluidity of Thin Helium Films

The question of the existence of superfluidity in unsaturated 4He films has been investigated by a number of experimental techniques. The techniques used include mass and thermal transport, 1–5 propagation of third sound,6,7 and the presence of long-lived persistent current flow states.8 The onset temperature for superfluidity is found to decrease as the film thickness is reduced.
