New Results on the States of the Vortex Lattice

Abstract

It was found previously1,2 that in the presence of a counterflow or a superflow normal to the axis of rotation, the vortex lattice created by the rotation is modified. These modifications are studied with second-sound attenuation measurements, and we report here some of our latest results. In particular, systematic measurements have been performed at various temperatures and with various angles β between the flow and the axis of rotation, using second-sound normal to the flow and either normal to the axis of rotation (direction Y, attenuation α y ) or parallel to the axis (direction Z, attenuation α z ). The main results can be summarized as follows.
