Excitation Spectrum of 3He-4He Mixture and Its Effect on Raman Scattering

Abstract

If we add a dilute solution of 3He to liquid 4He and consider the energy spectrum of the mixture, then the original phonon-roton spectrum and the 3He energy spectrum cross each other in the energy spectrum of the 3He-4He mixture if there is no interaction between 3He and 4He. The existence of the interaction between them presents the interesting problem of the two-level crossing. The addition of 3He to liquid 4He gives a shift in the roton-phonon spectrum, but it does not change the second branch of the original 4He excitation spectrum.
