Abstract

Treatment of the involved superficial femoral artery, in Hunter’s Canal, in the patient with chronic incapacitating ischemia was chosen as a model to illustrate the general principles important in vascular surgery of the patient with arteriosclerosis. This anatomic location is the site most commonly affected in the lower limb, and the natural history and prognosis are well known. Treatment of these patients can be among the most rewarding or frustrating experiences for the vascular surgeon. Proper selection from the many options available will offer the patient the best chance of rehabilitation.
