The Effect of Nucleate Boiling on Polystyrene-Coated Surfaces
In a recent investigation, Porchey  found that nucleate boiling of nitrogen from a gold-plated copper surface caused the gold plating to flake from the surface. This phenomenon was noted for only one surface; however, his data leave little doubt that the boiling caused the surface failure. The current investigation was initiated to determine if a polystyrene-coated copper surface would be affected in a similar manner by boiling nitrogen. This investigation was not concerned with comparing the nucleate behavior of various surfaces but only with the effect that the boiling had on the surfaces.
