Abstract

Many studies have appeared where animals were treated with drugs and chemical agents to try to increase lifespan. A few of these agents have shown a beneficial effect in laboratory animals; however, it is doubtful if any of these agents are effective in prolonging the lifespan of humans. The success of aging research may require concentrating on selective aspects of aging instead of looking for a panacea. A few agents do seem to have some degree of effectiveness in treating certain aspects of aging.
