Abstract

This section of the Workshop on Thromboatherosclerosis dealt with the present “state of the art” of producing experimental atherosclerosis in different animals, in which the thrombotic process is part of the development sequence in the pathogenesis and histogenesis of the lesion. The consideration of this topic was under two headings: (a) The use of normal animals of various species in which thromboatherosclerotic lesions are induced by diverse procedures; and (b) The use of animals with either induced or genetic impairment of the hemostatic mechanism, in which either naturally occurring or induced atherosclerosis is examined.
