Abstract

The endothelial cell activity modulates the response of the blood vessel wall to physiologic and pathophysiologic stimuli. The biosynthetic properties of endothelial cells are important determinants of normal vessel physiology. Recent advances in the study of cultured endothelial cells have shed new light on the active role of endothelial cells in normal hemostasis. It is probable that alterations in endothelial cell function significantly contribute to atherosclerotic processes.
