Theory of a General Quantum System Interacting with a Linear Dissipation System
In this paper, we will try to sketch a formalism developed in a paper by Feynman and Vernon,1 using Feynman’s space-time formulation of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics. It might be quite useful if we could calculate, in terms of its own variables only, the behavior of a system of interest which is coupled to other external quantum systems. The purpose of this paper is to show that in certain cases the effect of the external systems can be included in a class of functional (called influence functionate) of the coordinates of the system itself.
