Objectives of Clinicopsychological Investigation of Higher Cortical Functions in the Presence of Local Brain Lesions
The principal objective of the study of the higher cortical function in the presence of local brain lesions is to describe the general pattern of change taking place in mental activity and, from this, to identify the fundamental defect, to determine the secondary systemic disturbances, and, in this way, to attempt to explain the syndrome resulting from the fundamental defect. Clinicopsychological investigation can thus assist in the topical diagnosis of brain lesions and forms an essential part of the general scheme of clinical investigation of the patient.
