Abstract
Access to electronic computers is necessary for modern quantitative paleoecology, as almost all problems are highly multivariate. Diversity studies are becoming increasingly abundant in computer-based paleoecology. Multivariate statistical applications are- the most important area of computerized paleoecology, involving both standard multivariate methods as well as special adaptations. A useful concept in paleoecological reconstructions based on borehole data is the ecolog, a union of physical and biological values.
