Summary

Intrapleural instillation of a suspension of E. coli (0 25:19:12) results in a double sided pulmonary pleuropneumonial and peribronchial inflammation in albino Wistar rats. This infection lasts at least for 3 weeks when being facilitated by estradiolundecylate (10 mg/rat, weekly) and seems therefore to be a suitable model for testing antimicrobial drugs.
