A Collagen Analogue System in Nucella Lapillus, (Prosobranchia, Stenoglossa)
There has been considerable discussion at this symposium on adequete criteria for the presence of a collagenous structure. The protein described here is an illustration of how closely a non-collagenous structural protein can approach collagen in its fibrillar appearance and self-assembly characteristics, while its amino acid composition would seem to exclude collagenous triple helical domains in its conformation.
