Theory of Hydrogen Chemisorption on Ferromagnetic Transition Metals

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: NATO Conference Series ((SYSC,volume 6))

Abstract

An Anderson-Hubbard model for hydrogen chemisorption on ferromagnetic 3-d metals is presented. The substrate electronic structure is solved by means of the cluster-Bethe-lattice approximation and the size of the magnetic moment at the adatom and at the metal surface atoms are determined selfconsistently. Results are given for the chemisorption energy and for the change in the substrate magnetization upon chemisorption.
