Abstract

During 1960 ARL introduced the first commercial multichannel vacuum X-ray spectrometers for the simultaneous analysis of several elements. These instruments have been applied successfully to the analysis of many of the raw materials used in the steel plants and related industries. A report will be presented covering the techniques employed and the results obtained for various iron ores, sinter, slags, and pig iron. Factors relating the speed of analysis to production-control problems will be discussed.
