The City of Jakarta is the largest in South-East Asia and based on current growth trends, is likely to remain so in the future. The City grew from approximately 2.9 million to 4.6 million (a gain of 58%) between the census years of 1961 and 1971, and to an estimated 7.5 million by 1981 at a rate of 4.48% per annum.
