Beam Behavior in a Sector Cyclotron

Abstract

An electronic digital computer can be used to perform a complete analysis of particle motions in the magnetic field of a cyclic accelerator. These calculations can be used to solve the following problems:
  1. a)

    harmonic analysis of the magnetic field;

     
  2. b)

    determination of equilibrium orbits;

     
  3. c)

    calculation of betatron-oscillation frequencies and the determination of the admissible betatron-oscillation amplitudes;

     
  4. d)

    calculation of ion trajectories during ion drift in nonuniform magnetic fields.
