Magnetization Study of High Tc Superconductors

We measured the magnetization curves of sintered samples RBa2Cu3O7−y (R=Y, Eu, Dy, Er, Gd). Our result give; strong support to the idea that there are two different types of superconductivity, bulk superconductivity of grains and weak link superconductivity between grains, existing in ceramic superconductors.1,2 Using the critical state model critical current densities were derived from the hysteresis loops. There are indications of enhanced flux pinning by a quenched second superconducting phase, since the field dependence of critical current density was found to exhibit a maximum at intermediate temperatures.3 We present the results of hysteretic ac losses of sintered samples calculated from our magnetization data graphically.4
