Absorption of π Mesons and Nuclear Structure

  • T. I. Kopaleishvili

Abstract

The present status of the problem of pion absorption by nuclei is reviewed. The following main points are discussed: the absorption mechanism, the theoretical treatment of absorption processes, and the problem of the application of these processes for studying nuclear structure. The pair absorption mechanism and, related with it, the two-particle reactions (π ±, NN) are mainly considered, which have been the subject of intensive experimental and theoretical investigations for the last ten years.
