Selective Separation in the Supercritical Gas Phase

A method for the Separation of mixtures has been developed in which the mixture is treated with a supercritical gas under such conditions that the resultant phase formed by the gas and the extracted material is also in a supercritical State [1]. The fractionation of an homologous series is found to occur in an order of increasing boiling point and this is overlapped, where different classes of Compounds are present, by a Separation according to the class of Compound. The first is characteristic of a conventional distillation and the second of a conventional extraction and for these reasons the new technique has been termed “destraction”.+
