Human and Mouse Globin-Gene Sequences Introduced into Mice by Microinjection of Fertilized Mouse Eggs
The globin gene families provide an interesting model of regulated gene expression during both ontogenic development and erythroid differentiation (reviewed in Stamatoyannopoulos and Nienhuis, 1981). From sequence data and functional analysis of cloned globin genes, some regions (such as the consensus CCAAT and TATA blocks 5′ to coding sequences) have been identified as important for influencing the rate and accuracy of transcript initiation (Efstratiadis et al., 1980; Lauer et al., 1980; Dierks et al., 1981; Mellon et al., 1981; Grosveld et al., 1982).
