Since kinins have a very pronounced dilating effect on the coronary system, it has been proposed (PARRAT 1964) that they may play a major role in the regulation of coronary blood flow. In order to test the hypothesis whether kinins regulate the coronary resistance during reactive or functional hyperemia, recent studies on the role of kinins in myocardial reactive hyperemia (BASSENGE et ale 1969 and 1970) were extended by using a pentapeptide described by FERREIRA et al, (1970), which specifically potentiates the action of bradykinin by inhibiting the enzymes responsibie for the cieavage of kinins potentiating pen-tapeptide (BPP) on myocardial reactive and tachycardia-induced functional hyperemia was tested in the con-scious dog, which at rest exhibits a pronounced coro-nary tone and is thus very sensitive to dilating sub-stances.
