High Magnetic Fields and Low Dimensional Structures: A Survey of Transport and Optical Effects

Abstract

In 1988 an international conference with the title “The Application of High Magnetic Fields in Semiconductor Physics” was held in Wurzburg. The first meeting of this series was organized in Wurzburg in 1972. At that time, only a few lectures were concerned with two-dimensional systems. The situation has changed, however, in the meantime. At the last conference, the majority of the invited talks and the contributed papers concerned 2D systems. As a matter of fact, high magnetic fields have become an indispensable tool for the research on 2D systems. This is also reflected by the programs of the recent international conferences which were devoted towards the investigation of the electronic structure of 2D systems.
