Abstract

In the last decade, the use of micropuncture and microperfusion techniques have further advanced our knowledge of the renal handling of magnesium in health and disease. The purpose of this paper is to review (i) the renal handling of magnesium, (ii) the role of magnesium in the pathogenesis and treatment of renal calculi, and (iii) the role of magnesium depletion in the pathogenesis of hypocalcemia.
