The origins of Austrian psychology are linked with great names in the cultural history of mankind. The Austrian capital, Vienna, was for centuries one of the great centers of European thought and science. The search for roots of Austrian psychology leads in several directions, namely, the philosophical-humanistic theories of Brentano and Meinong, the logical-philosophical studies of the Viennese neopositivists (Wiener Kreis), and the medical psychiatric tradition of Krafft-Ebing, Nothnagel, and Brücke that culminated in the works of Sigmund Freud and his disciples.
