In 1850 there was but one psychologist in Australia, Barzillai Quaife, who taught psychology in the College of Sydney (today, Sydney University). Since 1883 psychology, especially child psychology, was taught in the so-called normal schools and other teacher training institutions. Starting in 1900 most teacher training was conducted in teachers’ colleges, some of which offered a diversified program in various psychological fields, especially educational psychology.
