Abstract
Psychology in France has a long and glorious tradition, starting with French philosophy through the encyclopedists to contemporary psychology. French scholars and scientists have made significant contributions to neuropsychology (Flourens), to physiological and experimental psychology (Pieron, Dumas), to social psychology (E. Durckheim, Levy-Bruhl), to dynamic psychology (Maine de Biran), to hypnotism (Bernheim, Charcot), to genetics (Ribot), to the study of the unconscious (Pierre Janet), and to intelligence tests (Alfred Binet).
Based on information supplied by Robert Pages, general secretary of the Société Française de Psychologie, and other sources.
