Abstract

In this paper the mechanisms by which many drugs could affect the acetylcholine (ACh) cycle in the central nervous system are listed and examples taken from the literature and from previous work of the author are discussed. No attempt has been made to cover all the vast literature concerning the effects of drugs on cerebral cholinergic mechanisms and data on the determination of the changes either in brain ACh output or content induced by drugs are mainly presented.
