Geology of Laterites
Naturally fed laterites evolve in soils rich in iron and aluminum, the soils having derived from the in situ weathering of igneous or metamorphic rocks or from transported soils which have the same properties. A special case is laterite formed upon inert soils by enrichment of iron and aluminum oxides from an outside source.
