Abstract

I would like to say that I am very happy to lecture here in Cargèse in these new buildings which did not exist when I was here last,10 years ago. The change is still bigger when I compare with the barrack which had been lend to us for trial in 1958 by Mr. Partiot, the owner of the land. It was with my friend Louis Pons that we thought first of the interest of starting a summer school in Corsica and around Christmas 1957 we organized a meeting between Mr. Partiot, Colette Mouchet, Maurice Levy, Louis Pons and I. A small group, mostly from the Ecole Normale, came for the Summer in 1958, before any firm commitment was made. However, very quickly, we were all seduced, as you probably all are, and very soon Maurice Levy convinced the French ministry of “Education Nationale” to buy the land. This is how the school started.
