Scaling of Seriousness and Assessment of Weights for Offense Factors of Burglary

Part of the Research in Criminology book series (RESEARCH CRIM.)

The instructions were presented to the judges in a booklet with the cover title Sentencing Research Exercise—Part 2. The first page gave a general introduction to the tasks followed on the next three pages by the instructions for the scaling of seriousness in terms of the offense factors and finally the instructions (two pages) for the weighting exercises. Associated materials for this task included sheets of paper on which the scaling problems were presented, graph paper with labeled axes for illustrating each judge’s value (seriousness) functions and other sheets on which the weighting problems were presented.
