In this chapter, research into the effects of treatment with clinical patients will be reviewed. After a brief review of controlled studies investigating the effects of psychotherapy, a detailed review is provided of the clinical effectiveness of behavioral treatments on agoraphobia, social anxiety, and sexual anxiety. Finally, the therapeutic effects of drugs on phobic disorders will be reviewed. The clinical application will be discussed in Chapters 11 and 12.
