Research Conclusions and Policy Recommendations about Geothermal Development
Much of this research has implications and generalizability for other areas potentially undergoing geothermal or other energy resource development. The immediate goal of the overall study,† however, was to provide Imperial County with information which would be helpful in the drafting of a geothermal element for their General Plan (1977). Thus, the county desired a relatively broad investigation giving them knowledge about the resource base and potential problems associated with its development. The environmental segment of the study was designed to acquire an integrated understanding of the natural and artificial landscapes giving Imperial County its character and that will play a role in resource development. Thus, integration, interdependence, and synergism were key words, while detailed individual analysis was given a lesser priority.‡
