Population-Economic Data Analyses Relative to Geothermal Fields, Imperial County, California
Geothermal energy worldwide exists in diverse geological, ecological, climatic, and socioeconomic settings. The oldest developed field in Lardarello, Italy has been producing electrical energy since 1904 (Wehlage, 1975). Lardarello has geologic features of steam fields, large production area, and others. Current production is 404.6 MWe (Wehlage, 1975). The socioeconhomic setting has included much overlapping agricultural and geothermal use, rural property in surrounding regions, relatively small amounts of nonelectrical use, long distance from large Italian population centers, and since 1967 a national policy of control of resource development by the Italian Federal Energy Agency.
