Beyond the Hydrogen Economy: Some Futuristic Ideas

Abstract

One of the greatest possibilities for the future has been described in Chapter 8. It is atomic fusion. There are so many difficulties at present that its practical development may be delayed until after the year 2100. Another concept which is quite possible, though the technology appears long-term, is that of tapping the energy of the magma itself, the inner liquid core of the earth. Will we be able to bore a hole 50 km deep in 100 years? And control what we find? Holes 10 kms deep are already being bored in oil exploration.
