Studies of Insoluble Organic/Inorganic Composites of Glucose Isomerase

Abstract

The full potential of many immobilized enzymes has not been realized because of the poor physical characteristics of the enzyme particles. To overcome this we have used a porous pre-fabricated support matrix as a rigid skeleton within which the much less robust enzyme gel can be deposited. The physical strength of the composite is provided by a macroporous inorganic bead, so that even very weak enzyme gels can be formed into easily handled particles.
