Carrier-Bound Detoxifying Enzymes for an Extracorporeal Detoxification of Endogenous and Exogenous Toxins

  • Chapter
Enzyme Engineering

Abstract

Enzymes for many years have had a firm place in medicine for diagnostic purposes. Enzymes have been routinely measured in blood, urine, stool, and tissue samples. For therapeutic use only one group of enzymes has been developed for safe and efficient application: enzymes of digestion. Lipases, peptidases, and amylases applied orally could correct digestive insufficiency and have been given without side effects for many years.
