Enzyme Collagen Membranes in Reactors and for Analytical Purposes

Abstract

In 1971 in order to simulate the influence of the biological membrane microenvironment on embedded enzymes, we grafted glutamate dehydrogenase (EC 1.4.1.3) to handmade ultra-thin collagen films (1). The enzyme kept its oligomeric structure and regulations. The Centre Technique du Cuir (Lyon) supplied us with films of highly polymerized, undegraded, insoluble collagen, prepared in industrial conditions as a by-product of the leather industries (2,3).
