Communications networking

Computer networking adds an extra dimension to the scope of telecommunications in the ordinary sense, by providing several communications media and channels for numerical data, text formulae, diagram graphics and images, as well as voice. Indeed, in its most advanced form it can handle multi-media messages using all these modes of message content. The potential of computer networking goes further than data communications, telex, telefacsimile, teletext, videotext, and electronic mail and message services. It includes the whole realm of office automation that is now evolving rapidly: financial transaction services, electronic publishing, integrated information services, and industrial/manufacturing applications.
